Changes I’m making in 2012

There’s been a lot of talk about New years resolutions lately, so I thought I’d join in and write about it as well.  However, I don’t make resolutions, because frankly, I don’t/can’t/won’t keep them. I’m just not good at that. There are people who are, and to you I give lots of credit!

This year, though, I plan to work on and change some things in my life.

I’ll share them with you:

- Study God’s word more in depth. I read my Bible twice a day, but I don’t take the extra time and really study it. I’d like to dig deeper and learn more, sometimes I feel like I’m still ‘hungry’ after reading and I want to take the time to learn how to get ‘full’.

- Spend more time ‘watching’ my kids. I don’t mean caring for them, I do that all the time. What I mean is I want to actually sit back and watch them at play. Get to know their personalities better. What better way to do that than to watch them in action?

- Be a better example. I’m really starting to see how much my kids learn from me. I’ve always known that they learn the most from the one they spend the most time with, but I’m seeing my negative qualities in them and that really saddens me.  So, now I need to work on me and my attitude, so that they can learn the ‘good’ from me instead.

- Chill out/relax. I’m by nature a more easily stressed person. I can get frustrated by the smallest things. So, this year, I will work on not letting things get to me and giving them to God, when they do. I need to remember to trust Him with everything and to seek Him in his word when things do upset me.

- Be kinder to those I meet on the street. Usually when I’m out doing my errands I’m so focused on my task, that I don’t take the time to be friendlier. It’s not that I’m in a bad mood, I just want to hurry up and go home. So, I’m going to work on taking the extra couple of seconds it takes to help my ‘neighbour’, whether it is opening the door, giving a smile or a hello, or any other opportunity that comes up.

These are just a few of the things that I’m going to  work on for this year of 2012. Did you make resolutions for this year? I’d love to hear about them!

God Bless!

Andrea

I heard recently a woman say that she makes a point to read in front of her children everyday ( I would add reading the bible in particular) to hopefully grow in them an understanding of the importance you place on it and also that they would grow to share that priority. Just a thought to add that kind of puts two of your resolutions together (study and influence! :)) -Lindsay Reimer

Thanks so much for your thoughts Lindsay! Most mornings when I'm doing my Bible reading, my kids wake up before I'm finished. They also know that it's my quiet time with God and that if they see mommy is still reading or praying, they need to go back into their room and wait for me to finish. I hope that through this, they are seeing that it's very important to set aside 'alone' time with God and that it's something that needs to be done every day.
I love hearing more ideas on how to positively influence them, thank you for sharing!

‘Fun Days’ of Summer

This week were supposed to get really nice weather again, so I probably wont post much. This past weekend we had ‘Fun Days’ in my town. There was all kinds of things to keep you busy. Friday evening was community slo-pitch, and a wiener roast after. Saturday was a free pancake breakfast, a slo-pitch tournament all day, bouncers for the kids, face painting, petting zoo, a flea market, a silent auction, evening entertainment, and so much more. It was a busy place to be! In the morning, we went as a family for breakfast and then my husband went to go help a friend of his, so it was just me and the kids. I took them to the ‘Fun Days’ for lunch and we stayed for a few hours. It was very hot, and they needed naps so we came home and relaxed for the rest of the day. Here are some pictures from our weekend: We ate a lot of freezies, and cotton candy, got our faces painted, and tried to find shade where ever we could! It was a really great day! My Mid-Life Crisis?

This has been a very difficult year for me. I turned 35 this year and I feel like I'm in the middle of a mid-life crisis. I have been trying to 'find' myself again. For the last 12 years I have pretty much had things figured out but this year when my youngest started grade 2, it felt like my whole life tipped over. Now, there wasn't any outward tragedy that I went through, no, it was more of an emotional, internal struggle that has been taking place. Realizing that my family doesn't need me the same way, but they still need me. Having a lot more free time and not knowing how to fill it, actually, to say that I didn't want to do my domestic chores to fill my time would be more accurate. So many decisions were suddenly available to me, decisions I hadn't considered in years. "Do I get a job? Full or part time? What kind of job? Do I go to school - just take some courses or get a degree? What kind of courses/degree? Do we have the money for me to go t...
